Hi! I'm Kristy. I am a wife, mommy, CPA, and now blogger.
I have always struggled with my weight. Being the heaviest in my family has been such a burden for me for most of my life. I tried diet after diet and nothing seemed to work. Sure, I would lose a few pounds here and there, but I would always gain that back - plus more! In 2011, I tried a new diet where I was able to lose 35 pounds in about 4 months! I was comfortable in my skin and loved how I looked. But only eating 900-1000 calories a day was unsustainable for long term.
As most diets go, after reaching my goal and going off the program, I slowly gained my weight back. Within a year I was back to where I was before I started. And then, as most women know, having a baby is not kind to your body. In 2013 my little boy was born. I was well beyond the heaviest I'd ever been. I had used my pregnancy as an excuse to not exercise and to eat whatever I wanted {the eating for two mentality}. I really let myself go. It was hard to look at the person staring back at me in the mirror and I still cringe when I look at the hospital pictures from when my son was born. Since I had been successful once with my low-calorie diet, I once again started on the program. I was able to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 3 months.
At that time in my life, I was solely focused on one thing concerning my health: losing weight. And I did just that. I reached my first goal of getting to my pre-pregnancy weight, but stopped there. Because I was focused on fixing a problem {being overweight} instead of attaining what I really wanted {optimal health}, I began a viscous yo-yo cycle. I would "diet" for a couple of weeks only to go off my plan and gain the weight back I had lost. This cycle continued for a while. After doing this for over a year, I was so sick and tired of my pre-packaged diet food, the thought of continuing turned my stomach. So I started to look for other ways I could lose my weight.
in 2015, I decided to change my way of thinking and stop the "dieting." I am no longer solely focused on losing weight {though that is still a goal}. I am focusing more on becoming HEALTHY and FIT. I decided to try a new workout and eating program with Beachbody - the 21-Day Fix. I'm excited to focus on eating clean, healthy food {which includes a healthy shake - Shakeology - packed with lots of dense nutrition} and challenge myself to the 7 workout videos {a different workout for each day of the week}. I'm learning that "skinny" doesn't necessarily mean "healthy" and that I need to do much more than lose weight to reach optimal health.
I'm excited for this new path I'm on and I hope you will join me on this journey to Being Healthy For Life.
